Credit goes to our own Matthew Benson for putting this how-to together.

(The following walkthrough was written based on the HTC Wildfire smartphone. Some menus may vary slightly.)

1. On your Android phone, launch the Mail application and you will see the below screen:

Should you have already configured a POP or IMAP account, then you can add another account by selecting Menu –> More –> New account

Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, then the following screen will be displayed:

Enter your full email address and password and tap Next (the password is the same password you use in your organization to log on to Windows). The client will attempt to determine the correct server settings to use automatically. If the client is not able to determine the settings, you will be prompted to enter the information manually. Alternatively if you prefer you can just tap on the Manual Setup button, the following screen will be displayed:

Complete the fields with the appropriate information:

  • Email address – your company e-mail address
  • Server address – this is the web address for your company’s remote e-mail (i.e. for Outlook Web Access). If you are unsure of this, speak to your system administrator (or us if you’re one of our clients)
  • Domain – your company’s domain name
  • Username –user name you us to log onto Windows within your organization
  • Password – password you us to log onto Windows within your organization

If the server uses a secure connection (i.e. if you usually need to enter put “https” at the beginning of the web address for Outlook Web Access), then tick the option. If you are unsure, check with your system administrator.

Once all of the information has been entered, tap Next. The client will verify the information entered. If you are using a ‘non root-trusted’ certificate on the Exchange server you will be warned that the device cannot verify the identity of the certificate, and be prompted to confirm that you wish to continue anyway.

Once you’ve followed all these steps, congratulations- you should now be able to access your company e-mail on your Android smartphone.
